Can a 5 month old be outside, in the shade, all day?
I am going to the lake with my family on a double decker pontoon boat, and I would like to take my daughter. The pontoon top will offer 100% protection since there is another level and we will be in a shaded cove most of the day.
I would not.
It is too hot for a young baby that age. And they don't recommend putting sunscreen on babies under 6 months of age.
Even if there is shade- she can still get burned.
It happened to me when I was little.
Especially all day- no way would I have my 5 months old outside like that. Sorry.

how can I keep seagulls from making the top of my pontoon boat their home?
my neighbour tried the owl but it did not work...they are getting smarter! he he!
Forget the fake critters... the gulls are smarter than that. The only things I've seen work are "gull sweeps". They are long thin pieces of wire with little airfoils on the end. They stick onto hard surfaces with suction cups and rotate slowly in the slightest breeze. Stringing monofilament back and forth as someone else mentioned will work as well. For a fun solution, there is a Rain-Bird sprinkler that is matched up with a motion sensor. Hook to a water hose, and if anything comes into sensor range, it sprays them! Works, and fun to watch as well.

I commend you on saving everyone on board with your quick-thinking.
While pontoon boats are often rented the un-schooled boater, I believe that they are secretly outfitted with hidden cameras to record reaction of the screaming men and women during the nose dives that these craft invariably perform. Same thing happen to us on a family reunion. It was funny later, but not when we all thought we were going to die.
