Yamaha Waverunner GP800 will not start!?
I have a 99 Yamaha Waverunner GP 800 that recently got put in the water with a drain plug missing. After the engine flooded, I found out that I needed to take out the old spark plugs and push the water out of the engine. After doing so I replaced the old plugs with new and finally got the engine running. I was told to run it hard and for a while in order to evaporate the remaining water in the engine. The engine ran great the rest of the day. The next time I went out though the jetski died after about an hour of running. After taking it to the shop I was told that the engine was locked and that they couldn't turn the crankshaft by hand. Did getting water in the engine cause this issue? I just don't understand how it ran so well after pushing the water out and replacing the plugs, but then suddenly locked after taking it out the next time. I'm told by the dealer that it's astronomical to fix the problem. Is this true or just what the dealer is stating. Thanks everyone!!!
The fact that the engine started and ran for an hour the second time you took it out I'd say the two problems are probably unrelated. An engine will normally only seize when it overheats and the metal expands due to a lack of lubrication. When the dealer told you it would be astronomical to fix the engine that was his way of telling you that he really doesn't want to fix it, and you might do better to try to find another answer. It might be cheaper to get another jet ski. If the ski has an oil reservoir you might have gotten water into that. You might want to change that oil and see if you can break the engine free with a wrench to get it turning again, but even if this works the engine will probably never be the same again after it's seized.
