vip ski boats
what is it like to live in san francisco?
i am going there in fall to start college. can anyone tell me what its like? i live in NY (upstate, not manhattan) now, so i want to know how it will be different. serious answers only please. 
In some respects, it is similar to moving from upstate New York to Manhattan. You are going from a rural area to a more urban environment. San Francisco is a cosmopolitan city. It has the best public transportation system west of the Mississippi. The dining is world class, the parks are really nice, and the arts scene is thriving. There are lots of immigrants (mostly from Asia and Latin America).
This is still California though.
And San Francisco is fairly laid back compared to New York City. For instance, San Franciscans largely shun the ridiculous rituals associated with going to nightclubs. Anyone willing to spend $300 on a bottle of cheap vodka or some VIP pass is more likely to elicit pity than praise. Similarly, one can dine in the city's finest restaurants without a jacket and tie. This casual attitude extends to the workplace and everyday interactions as well.
If you do get homesick, the Sierra Nevada mountains are only a few hours away by car, bus, or train. This is "upstate" Northern California style. Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park, in particular, are incredibly beautiful. There are amble opportunities for skiing, hiking, boating, fishing, and numerous other outdoor activities. Even closer to the city, Wine Country and Marin County offer spectacular scenery that is easily doable as a day trip.

Now, that looks like fun! Less dangerous than with boats, too, I should think. There are too many accidents around here in the summer with too many ski-boats and too much beer on the lake.I got through high school mostly unscarred, but still carry the shadow of a nice slice from a slalom water ski. Kiteboarding is huge down the coast, around Corpus Christi – also windsurfing. The winds there are stronger than ours and steady – they have competitions there all the time because of the dependable conditions. Sometimes, the competitions move offshore when the Gulf flattens. It looks to me like you’d have to be in really good condition, though – they track for miles.
