How much money does Prince William have?
Well seeing as how he's a prince and all.. he must be really wealthy.
He won't get the huge bucks until his grandmother dies. At this point the entire income of the Duchy of Cornwall will go to him.

When Prince William turned 25 he gained part of the inheritance left him by his mother, Princess Diana. He gained access to the interest and other income accrued on the $13 million he was left by his mother, who died in a Paris car crash in 1997. His office would not say what the prince planned to do with the money, estimated at $500,000 to $600,000 a year. Harry, 22, William's brother, will gain access to a similar amount when he turns 25. According to Diana's will, the brothers gain access to the capital sum when they turn 30.

The queen's personal net worth is estimated at 320 million pounds (roughly 1/2 billion). It is held in her two estates she personally owns (Sandringham and Balmoral), some artwork, jewelry, stud animals and a stock portfolio worth about 70-100 million pounds.

All travel that she does is considered official travel and is re-imbursed by taxpayers. She did choose to personally pay for the rental of a 40 year old ferry that has been converted to a private tour boat in Western Scotland for her 80th birthday.

The Queen (for a head of state) actually has a very modest travel budget. Until about 10 years ago the state supported an expensive yacht (which was retired). She has had a private train since 1977 which is expensive, but it allows her to travel securely, in comfort and privacy with a little of the old royal grandeur about 7 or 8 times a year. She does not fly commercially. Whenever possible the RAF flies her domestically, but when they are not available a private jet is chartered. For international state and commonwealth visits a suitable larger jet is chartered.

There is a royal helicopter, but there is not an official royal plane. The VIP planes in use by the RAF are now over 25 years old and must be retired.

The Queen's helicopter is due to be replaced this month and you can purchase the old one. The advertised price of $7.8 million is a bit steep for a 10 year old helicopter. They are hoping that it will sell because of the cachet. However, the royal colors cannot be used by a private individual.

Although you read about the 41 million pound annual royal household budget, most of it goes to maintaining the occupied royal palaces (Windsor, Buckingham, Holyrood in Scotland) and for the staff. Queen Elizabeth herself, does not have very costly taste and is fairly "cost effective" as a head of state. There are many heads of state of poor third world countries that are much more extravagant. Princess Anne is also relatively modest in her affairs. Prince Charles and Prince Andrew spend quite a lot of money. William's spending, while heavy for a military man, is actually pretty much under the radar for a royal.

Prince Charles and Prince Andrew really have the lions share of the royal travel budget. They are given to much more elaborate charter jets and on occasion a charter yacht. Charles has started busting a million dollars on several occasions for his charter jet expenses (for less than a week). During May of 2008 he expensed £33,400 for a jet to take him overnight to Belfast (310 miles each way). This expense is more than the combined 189 round trip tickets for an entire commercial jet on Ryan Air for the same route.

In theory Prince Charles should distinguish between personal and business travel. He does not expense his ski vacations. He does fly on a commercial plane on occasion, but he usually buys so many first class tickets that it approaches charter costs.

Prince Philip, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew do fly commercial on international trips (sometimes). Prince William flies commercial, and even is known to fly coach.

Personally I would like to see Charles fly around domestically in a nice Ferrari turboprop. Renting huge fuel guzzling jets to fly a few hundred miles seems hypocritical if you are going to lecture the nation on the environment. I don't expect them to fly commercial domestically, but it doesn't have to be a monster jet for flights of less than 1 hour.

When Elizabeth dies the parliament may challenge the use of some of these properties. Kensington Palace is where William and Harry grew up, but it is presently occupied by three of the queen's first cousins (and her sister before she died). Since it is so close to the embassies this property is worth a fortune if it could be leased out as ambassador apartments or offices. I suspect that this property may be confiscated.

Windsor Castle may be a point of contention. Supposedly Charles want to semi-abandon Buckingham Palace and move the royal household to Windsor. His present home, Clarence House, which he also lived in as a baby rivals the White House in size and in grandeur.It is almost an acre in square footage. I imagine that parliament may be inclined to see Windsor Castle turned to more state use, and less of a private home.

The mansions occupied by Prince Andrew and Edward, and the Queen's cousin Princess Alexandra may be turned to more public use when the present leases expire. I think all of William's cousins may not live in as grand a manner as princes and princesses of previous generations.
