Sailboat PHRF Ratings for a sunfish type sailboat?
I have a small sailboat called a Howmar Phantom and I want to do competitive racing. I talked to the guy that runs the races, and he said that i need an official rating. I have NO clue what to do to get this rating.....like what website do i go to, or mail something to a cirtain person? thanks for your help!
PHRF ratings are reached by a combination of a formula and observed performance. They can vary a bit by region. Some boats rate a point or 2 higher or lower by region. Find the PHRF governing group for your area. Your race-master or local sailing/yacht club should have it. There are various sites online that list the ratings by region and some have the formulas. Do a search on PHRF and start digging. Here are a few that I keep. They may not be for your region, but they might be of some help.:
