getting started with boating
Any suggestions to get help me get my Force 120 hp boat motor started?
I recently purchased a used boat (1992 18' Balyliner Capri with 120 hp Force motor) and have brought it to the lake only twice. The first time I was able to get it to start, but only after several attempts. Now today, it seemed like it wanted to start, but wouldn't quite turn over. The one time it did start, it cut out as soon as it was put into gear. The attempts after that made little or no noise and I gave up. Also, can someone explain how to use the choke and explain what exactly it does (I'm assuming just pushing the key in while turning to start as it is labeled)? My knowledge of this is very limited so any thoughts on where to start would be appreciated. I was told to try charging the battery, replacing the spark plugs, and using new fuel but would appreciate any other thoughts or ideas.
Take the cover off the engine .replace the plugs ,Charge
your battery ,get a battery tester make sure battery
dc voltage is 1270 or more on dc scale 1270 is the
voltage battery has will only show that if fully charged
drain and put new gas in tank..make sure you have the
correct oil mixed with gasoline if a mixture is called for
very important make sure you disconnect gas line from
engine disconnect quick change coupling from gas line
and make sure when you squeeze the gas bulb until gas
comes out the line is possible gas line fuel filter clogged
ok. you now have gas.replace coupling and reinsert in engine.
pump up gas bulb until very very hard . shoot a little
starting fluid in engine air intake now start engine . make sure you have water for the engine if it is out of the water.
Choke go by the sound of the engine adjust to where
engine turns the fastest and tries to start.I personally
think the purpose of a choke is to keep engine running
until it gets to operating temp Good Luck.

The Book Wakeboard - Getting Started
what happens if i run 2 12volt marine batteries in a series to start my boat?
my boat has an outboard motor which does not charge the battery and when i go on day trips i get nervous it will die when useing the radio and electronics. if i get a second battery and wire them in a series will this harm the starter on the motor or will it mess up the batteries?
hey thanks for all the answers i meant to say parrallel not series that was my mistake. And about the year its a 88 force motor 125hp
The starter, radio, instruments, lights and everything else electrical or electronic on the boat will be damaged.
The reason for this is that all of these things run on smoke. If you connect the batteries in series, you will let the smoke get out of everything. Once the smoke gets out, you can't put it back in. You will have to replace everything.
