Questions about a carnival cruise?
My husband and I (ages 24 and 26) will be cruising from Port Canaveral on the Sensation on Sept 9, 2007. This will be the first cruise for us. We know that alcohol is extra as well as soda. Does anyone know how much beer is? Also we heard that you can buy a card for unlimited soda for like $25.00. Is this true? Can you bring soda on the ship with you from home? Also we are going to Freeport Bahamas then on to Nassau. Can anyone reccommend things to do at either place? Should we book excurrsions thru the cruise line or try to do it ourselves??? Please help!!!
We were to Freeport for a day trip a few years ago.. (they have a day trip cruise out of Fort Lauderdale)..
We spent the day at the Strawmarket shopping... at Port Lucaya. We headed a short walk across the street from the market and went to a hotel there (I can't remember the name, but it was the only one at the time) and we gambled a little bit in the casino there. It was pretty, but we lost our money rather quickly... so we headed off to the public beach (all within walking distance) and we sat on the beach, and I had my hair braided by a local woman while my husband rented a jet ski and screwed around on the water for about 45 minutes..
There didn't seem to be a LOT of things to do there, actually.. and I was thinking that a day there was plenty for us...
I've never been to Nassau, but I heard there are more things there.
I'm sure you'll be able to find excursions yourself cheaper than the cruise lines.. When you get off the ship, there are always 50 people at the end of the gangway waiting to whisk you away to their destinations.... whichever boat cruise, or snorkeling store, or whatever.. and some of them even have free shuttles to get there. You don't have to go with the group from the ship.. unless for some reason you feel unsafe or uncomfortable being alone in a foreign country... The Bahamas didn't seem to be scary or unsafe, though.
You shouldn't try to bring soda on the ship from home.
If you NEED to drink soda.. you'll have to pay for it.. but water, iced tea, lemonade and fruit punch are available 24/7 in the food court, and they're free.. just grab a glass whenever you're walking through and take it to your deck chair, or back to your room with you...
