what brand outboard motor should I buy for my 12 foot fishing boat?
has anyone had good or bad experiences with an out board motor that I should know about.
Depends, If price is a major factor in your decision I would go with something like an evinrude I know that mercury tends to be the price leader but they also tend to require a little bit more maintenance. In my personal opinion Evinrude gives you the most bang for the buck. If price is not so much the issue the Honda really sticks out as the most reliable outboard but also the most expensive and most expensive to work on. If you are a do it yourselfer Honda usually tends to be the most difficult to work on. Two stroke or four stroke is also another deciding factor today. Two stroke requires mixing oil in gas where the 4 stroke does not. Also 4 strokes are known for lower emissions and pollutants released into the environment. However these perks come at a higher price and a sacrifice of power to weight ratio. IE the 4 stroke weighs quite a bit more then the two stroke to provide the same power. Also two strokes have better whole shot and top end versus the heavier 4strokes. My best answer would be to find the motor that best fits your budget and if you plan on taking it to a shop to have all maintenance done has the most convenient retailer. Doesn't make sense to save money on a motor just too burn up your savings driving 150 miles every time it needs service.

I just saw your “fishing boats” slide show. I'm totally knocked out by your talent….I've surfed some of your sites and Googled you, which led me to other sites of your work. Fabulous! I visit Mass. 2 to 3 times a year….I love it there…particularly Swansea, Fairhaven, Fall River, Providence and of course Boston.
