INFO on North American Sailing Championships, NOOD & J24 Nationals in Seattle 2010?
Most importantly is the weather forecast and what to wear racing sailboats? Less is best, so which is better a Wetsuit or Drysuit for dinghy racing a J24 in Seattle? What's the chop, spray and water temp going to be on the Sound in May?
Also any hints on things to do and eat?
Water temps are cold in Puget Sound year round - in May the water temps will probably be in the low 50's. Air temps will probably be in the low-mid 60's, with good chances for rain still. Quite frankly, you want at minimum a dry suit for most dinghy sailing on the sound year round.
Weather -wise, it's good to know that most winds in the Sound come either from the north or the South. East winds are almost unheard of. There is a significant tide here, so be aware of it and choose a line closer to shore going against the tide and towards the center of the sound with the tide (winds being equal).
Chop will depend on wind and tide - if the wind and tide are against each other, then the chop goes up.
Most races are set up to avoid the vessel traffic system, but be aware of it - in the center of the sound, large container traffic and tugs have right of way and you need to stay out of their way.
The Corinthian yacht club has links to local weather conditions that may be worth watching to get an idea of local conditions.
