hunter sailboat for sale
can anyone learn to sail a boat ?
i think i would like to learn to sail , is it somthing i can do full time? say maybe a lifestyle?
Yes, you can learn to sail.
I first got hooked on sailing over 20 years ago when a friend took me out on his 28' Lancer over to Catalina Island. I was hooked!!!!
The next day I started the 19 week U.S. Coast Gurad Auxillary Sailing Course and got my Certificate after taking his his 27' Catalina out of Los Angeles Harbor. It's the least expensive way to learn all about it as well as the rules and regulations.
I suggest reading as much as you first.
Then, join a sailing club. You don't have to have a sailboat to join.
Make friends and offer to crew for them if they race or just cruise around for the day, weekend. You'll learn a lot that way, also.
Some sailing clubs have boats for rent so ask about that, also.
Sailing is 95% pure relaxation and pleasure and 5% knowing what to do when something needs to be done.
The more you sail, the better you'll be.
Then, when you get a bit more experience start writing down the features you like in a sailboat...i.e. diesel inboard or outboard, smaller versus larger, standing headroom or not, galley? head? Once you;ve gotten your shortlist down to 4 or 5 boats, starting searching the many websites for one of them on sale. Now is a great time to buy one. Go see some of mthe ones for sale in your area. Check out those websites specifically for the type of boat you're after.
Buying a sailboat is a compromise. You probably won't get everything you want but that's o.k.
Remember, the bigger the boat, the more expensive it is.
A friend of mine bought a 1996 Hunter 38' for $118,000. His first year for all costs was around $35,000.
I went a different direction and got a Classic Plastic sailboat. It's a 1977 Cape Dory 25, for $3,500 which included an old trailer. Ater 19 months (and over $10k) of working on her, she's ready to go just about anywhere.
The previous owner had sailed her from Seattle to Alaska and down to San Diego.
It can be a lifestyle as many folks simply bail out of the landlife and go cruising. On the West Coast, that usually means Mexico and beyond.
It's a great life and although it doesn't cost as much as if you were on land, it can get pricey depending on your lifestyle.
Those that rent slips and go to the fancy restaurants can spend a mint.
Anchor out or grab a mooring, eat where the natives do and it's much, much less expensive.
Once it gets in your blood, you'll be hooked......
Nothing better than watching the dolphins play games with you as cruise along....or watching a sunset while sitting in the cockpit mending your steak and baked potato cook on the BBQ and sipping on a cold drink.......
