Hours sport Tower
How do I get a licsense to fly an ultralight? and other questions?
Where do I go to learn? Do they fly out of normal airports? What altitude do they fly at? How long does I take to get my license?
Do places rent ultralights or would I have to purchase one?
In the US, you don't need a license to fly an ultralight. They're single seat only, so you have to do your training in a two sea "Light-Sport Aircraft". Training is not legally required but it's necessary if you want to survive your first flight. Check out usua.org or aerosports.org for instructor listings.
Ultralights can be flown out of most airports. Obviously a large airport with jetliner traffic would be out, but most smaller airports are OK, depending on the policy of the airport management. Small, less busy airports (those without control towers) are best. Ultralights can also be flown out of many small grass fields. They fly at any altitude, up to 18,000', but most pilots prefer to fly lower, between 500-2000'. You will probably need 10-30 hours of instruction to fly safely.
