What to do in Seattle,where to stay/eat?
I will be flying to Seattle in June and will be there for 2 days. What are some things to do while I am there, some good restaurants to eat at, and a good hotel preferably close to airport? Thanks.
There are lots of things to do in Seattle, depending on your interests. We have a very good zoo (Woodland Park), good shopping, Pike Place Market, ferries to other islands or the peninsula, hiking in the foothills, Museum of Flight, Experience Music Project, etc. The underground tour of Pioneer Square is interesting to history buffs. Lots of people enjoy going to Alki beach in West Seattle to walk or roller blade along the shore. There are lots of beachfront and lakefront parks you can enjoy in the area.
If it is a clear day, you might enjoy going to to the top of the Space Needle and enjoying the 360-degree view. You can pay to go to the observation deck, which is a lot more reasonable than the restaurant (and the food there is OK, but not great.)
One thing that my guests have enjoyed is taking the Argosy cruise from Lake Union into Lake Washington. They give you a lot of trivia and history of the area, take you by the houseboat that was used while filming Sleepless in Seattle, take you by Bill Gates' multi-million dollar home, etc. Plus it's always nice to be on the water. If you take the cruise, you want to sit on the port (left) side of the boat as it most of the things you will want to see are on that side. Take binnoculars if you have them.
Bring a waterproof rain jacket or umbrella - it can rain anytime in Seattle (though it usually doesn't rain non-stop - but it's cloudy a lot). And breezes off the water may make it cool so have a sweater or jacket. Plus, be sure to have sunglasses -You'll be coming when our days are the longest so you'll be glad to have them with you!
Whatever you do, don't stay by the airport. It's only about 15 miles south of downtown, but nearly everything you will want to see will not be by the airport.
Seattle has lots of great restaurants - and a variety of styles (Asian, pacific fusion, Italian, etc.) and price points. I recommend you look at the website below to see people's ratings of the various restaurants and choose some that sound good to you. And if the weather is nice, try to find one where you can dine outside and enjoy the sunshine like the locals do.

The more intimate connection with nature is one of my favorite parts of living in Tennessee! Two weeks ago, it was hiking up a creek to a waterfall. Last Saturday, it was laying on the deck of a boat on the lake for hours. Yesterday, it was a gorgeous magenta flower from a friend's garden. I think it causes a deeper sense of wonder and awe for God when we play in his creation.
