What size of cruising yacht would you recommend for me?

I'm looking to buy a yacht that I can sail by myself. One that I can tow with my car (suv mercedes m-class) on a trailer easily. Also, I don't want to put it on a dock/marina. Instead I want to be able to keep it on a trailer in my backyard.

I tend to use the yacht for open sea sailing. Maybe crossing the Atlantic Ocean sometime.
When I say size I mean what's the maximum size recomended that I can tow with my car easily?
I hear that 26' is good but can I go bigger?

As stated by others the elements of a small trailerable and ocean going are in grave conflict. They are indeed very different boats.
There have been great adventures of sailing the oceans in very small, sometimes open, boats as far back as Slocume but all were operating at the edge of survival the entire time.
So here is the reality – get some training – ASA or USS, then get on as crew for local activities – every major area has a local pub that has crew lists, you will soon realize that you will need very differing boats. One to play with while you develop your skills and have fun ( the only reason to do any sailing) the other to go cruising in . Get some books – Pardey ( a shelf full) Dashew, Aebi, Carpenters, each has their own view. The Pardeys are on their final voyage – started in 1969 ! all wood and no motor and the big boat is 30’, Dashews like big and fast – 60’ – aluminum, power winches, Aebi – solo circumnavigated in a 26’ at 19, Aoki in Japan sailed in what amounts to a tiny backyard plywood boat, Do not discount mulihulls or heavy cruisers. You will soon find what might fit for you. As an aside – most boats doing serious cruising are under 35 feet and are operated by a couple.

Your Stow and Go Yacht Tender!
This super lightweight little boat is easy to carry, easy to stow, easy to set up, easy to row, and easy to motor. This yacht tender weighs only 59 lbs. and packs small enough to stow easily below deck.
A great feature of this model is the surprisingly large inflatable tubes in relation to it's size - 17" tubes versus 8'10" length. Although it is only 8'10" long, it will easily hold 4 persons or up to 1067 lbs of people and gear.
Another great feature is the rigid inflatable drop stitch floor which provides structural strength, great standing rigidity and makes set up a dream! It only takes 5-7 minutes to inflate and fully set up this rugged little yacht tender. The Sea Eagle 8.10YT takes up to a 5 hp gas engine or up to a 74 lbs electric motor. This is a great little ship to shore runabout!

Is it possible to live on a yacht?

Say I buy a $300 million dollar yacht and cruise around the world on it. Is it possible to just live on it (and of course occasionally get repairs, fuel refills, etc.)?

Very possible lots of people do it.
