For those who have bought a boat in the last two years, what percentage were you able to negotiate?
I'm looking at buying a boat. 18 or 19 foot bowrider. Skiing on the lake--not fishing. Things I'd read said you couldn't negotiate as much for a boat as you could a car. If you've bought one in the last couple years, what percentage of the price were you able to negotiate off the total?
The ones I'm looking at have list prices of 20-24K.

Thanks Derrick. Some articles said to put it an offer at 25% under but in that case that would be 15K for a 20K boat. I can't imagine that being successful.
If you're buying from a dealer and a new boat, you'll have more room to work with. However, the small size of boat that you're looking at will have a lot smaller area of negotiation. !8-19' boats are already "Entry Level" boats and price as low end to start with. If you can get $2k off, you're doing good. Don't go in thinking you're going to get a third off. They will laugh at you. My new motor yacht listed at $2.1 M, I got it for a lot less, but the markup is a lot bigger than what you're looking at.
