bayliner ski boats
How would this Bayliner 175 perform with a Murcruiser 3.0?
I'm thinking about buying a new boat for skiing, tubing, wake boarding, and just cruising around. How would this Bayliner do? I'm used to a simular boat with a 115 HP outboard, but the outboards are so loud. I was thinking about trying an I/O this time.Here's a link to the boat

If you intend to only carry about 4 adults and maybe a small child or two (under 12), then this model will do fine.
I however would shop around for a late model used one instead, resale values for new boats drop worse than automobiles. Buying new in my view only gets you the "new vehicle/boat smell" fresh off the lot and not much else.
Keep in mind boat that is heavily loaded with weight will take longer to plane, increase drag in the water, and put extra work on the drive system. If you intend to pulling wakeboarders or skiiers with a boat of this size and HP, don't fill the boat to capacity. Keep the weight down to about 4 average sized adults.
The key thing about boat performance is keeping track of gross cargo and passenger weight. If you fill up most 3.0L mercrsuier I/O's with 6 average weight adults, ice chest, and gear, then performance is going to suffer.
If you have too many wanting to ride, rotate people on and off the boat every 30 minutes. That's what I've always done and so has my father long ago.
When its skiing/wakeboarding time, I keep the passenger count down to 3 people. Driver, and two passengers taking turns getting pulled. Never have had a problem with performance by doing this way.

The deceased man should have made his little sculling boat more visible. To go out on a crowded lake at sunset in a 5″ tall, 8″ wide row boat was a very risky decision, It’s equivalent to riding a bicycle on the freeway at dusk, not too smart if you ask me. Those little, hard to see “rowboats” should be required to have lights, or flags or something. Ski boats must raise a flag when there’s someone in the water, as do divers; and yet the people rowing these tiny, lightweight, little scullers are just as hard, if not harder to see. Not too mention they are fast, (up 10 knots) and can come into the path of a power boat very quickly…and….the rower is facing backwards, and cannot see where he is going. I don’t know what happened out there, but I do know everyone is being very quick to blame the young ski boat captain, and that’s not fair to anyone. Let’s wait for the facts.
