used wakeboarding boat
WaterSports! Tubing, Wakeboarding! All That Fun Stuff. Help Please?
Well my family is buying a boat and we were going to get a 190 horsepower inboard, which was cool with me, cause thats alot for an 18 footer.
Anyway, we couldnt get that one so now they have found one thats only a 90 horsepower. I am really into tubing and stuff and was wondering if this is enough to go fast, and pull me out of the water while wakeboarding.
How much horsepower do you use? Or how much would you recommend. I weigh about 160 pounds if that matters. Also how fast will 90 horsepower pull a 16 footer?

Boats are not as fast as people may think. But, on water they fast enough. I had a 165 HP inboard that do about 50 maybe 55 with a clean hull and 21 pitch prop. We could tube 2 people with a 19 pitch prop, but, really tubing, sking, wakeboarding, whatever you do, it more fun solo as you can move everywhere without someone in the way. The 90 HP may do 30-35. But, with maybe a 19 pitch prop, it be a little slower and pull a Skier, tube, wakeboard etc. Believe me, when you crash and burn you will think you were going much faster as you gasp for air. 
Years before I had the 165, I had a old 95 outboard. Everyone had a blast. The more people that in the boat will also affect speed. When we were younger we could barefoot behind a 70 HP (Before people got scared and start holding on to those poles). That about a 150 pound person. I believe a heavier person could barefoot also. We would sit on a wakeboard until the boat plained off, feet forward and then just stand up holding the rope handle close in to our chest. I not remember the prop pitch. Probably 17 pitch as the lower the number the more pulling power. But, I think you will enjoy the 90 HP. Do not worry about trying to have the fastest boat, as there always one faster. Have Fun!

> sailing There’s a big difference between a motorboat and a sailboat. I tow my 420 behind my Hyundai Elantra. I have good rigging and vinyl sails so the only maintenance I do is hosing down the boat after I use it. I think I’ve spent about $2,000 on the boat, trailer, and equipment. Compare that to my friends with $30k wakeboarding boats. There’s always maintenance to be done on this or that. (One engine threw a rod, that’s a $12,000 repair) and they have to drive big inefficient vehicles to tow the damn boats (like 4runners, tahos, et al) the boats are big money drains (and drink fuel like mofos).
