What kind of boat should I get?
It will be a family boat that our 14 year old is probably going to drive while the parents drive the jet skis. We're going to take a bunch of her friends out on it so it needs to hold a bunch of people. We want to use it to tube and ski and wakeboard, but her father also wants to fish off of it. So what I want to know is what like brand should we get? Seadoo? Tahoe? Sundancer? We are looking at a Tahoe, but why can't we find any used ones? Please provide any info that will help! Oh and our budget would be like $21,000.
I have an 18' Bayliner Capri 185 that my husband and I bought new in 2007. We've used it for fishing, lounging, and pulling tubers and it works great.
There are 8 seats, so you can fit friends. There is plenty of storage for fishing gear and tow toys. And the back seats fold up into a sun lounger, which I really enjoy.
We're actually going to try to sell it this year for somewhere between $12,500 to $14,500 because we just bought a house with a pool in a city that isn't near a lake so don't think we will use it much anymore. (And we want to have a baby at which time I'll probably quit working.) It that comes with the matching, tanneau cover, tube and rope, safety kit (life jackets, flairs, etc), bumpers, trailer, etc. If you're interested, feel free to call my husband, Matthew, at 517-526-2336. Otherwise, boats similar to mine run anywhere between $14,000 to $50,000 + new, and that's not including taxes and registration. They make pontoons now that are great for lounging, but also pull tubers and skiiers. Those are pretty cool, but more expensive.
I'm not sure where you live, but it's likely that your state has a boat show each year. See if you can find out when it is and go...you'll learn a lot. But beware - the salesmen often tell you that you are getting the boat show sale price, but it's not a sale price at all.
Or, go to your local boat dealerships and talk with some of the people working there to learn more. Another great place - I consider it the best place - to find out about boats is to go to the lake and talk to boaters who are already there. Get their opinions on where to buy boats and what kind to get.
Also, you can check Craigslist or usedboats.com for a boat for you.
