What type of Boat to Buy?
I am looking for a family boat for fresh and salt water - Under $10k (Used of course). For Fishing, skiing and tubing, something under 21' or so in length. It's for a typical family - 2 adults 2 kids. Tubing at the lake on weekends summer vacations in the gulf of mexico fishing for redfish and the like fairly near to shore.
My dad has one for sale. Its a bass boat with a bored out 460 super stroke. I bet it could pull the whole family and then some. Unless you plan on flashlight fishing, all you need is a canoe and a flashlight.
Imagine how fast you could get to the fish. You would practically land on them. The biggest investment on that boat would be installing 5 point harnesses on all the seats.
I bet the kids would love it!

How do you solve these Algebra 2 word problems?
1. A youth group with 26 member is going skiing. Each of he 5 chaperones will drive a van or a sedan. The vans can seat seven people and the sedans can seat five people. How many of each type of vehicle could transport all 31 people to the ski area in one trip?
2. A boat can travel 24 mi in 3h when traveling with a current. Against the same current, it can travel only 16 mi in 4 h. Find the rate of the current and the rate of the boat in still water.

I have no idea where to start!
1. Set up the two equations :
7v + 5s = 31 : since 31 people need to ride vans that seat 7 and sedans that seat 5
v + s = 5 : and there are 5 total vehicles going
Take second one times -5, and add them :
(7v + 5s) + (-5v + -5s) = 31 + (-25)
This all adds to : 2v = 6
Then v = 3 -- or 3 vans
and 5 - v = 2 -- or the sedans
So 3 vans of 21 with 2 sedans of 10 will transport all people there.
2. I solve these with a faster method than usually taught.
24 / 3 = 8 : speed of boat with current
16 / 4 = 4 : speed of boat against current
8 + 4 = 12 : total for both ways
12 / 2 = 6 -- the boat speed, since there are two ways
8 - 6 = 2 -- the current speed, since the boat must add this on the trip up, and subtract it on the trip back.
Use the simultaneous equations below to solve the traditional way :
3(b + s) = 24
4(b - s) = 16
