top ski boats
3.0L Mercruiser Prop. ?
I have a 1996 17’ fish and ski boat with a Mercruiser I/O 3.0L engine. I am wondering how I can get a little more top speed out of my small boat. I do a little skiing and tubing but most of the time I spend just cruising around the lake. What is the best pitch on a prop for this size engine? 3 blade or 4 blade? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks
Trim tabs are a big help on keeping the bow from coming up so high you can't see forward very well when getting on plane, and they'll help keep you on plane at slower speeds.
You should also try to keep the boat as light as possible, less gear / fewer people will make a big difference in speed, and you may have noticed this already. Generally speaking, the smaller the boat, the more difference this makes.
