Help with lake tahoe ski resort question (northstar)?

I am looking to go to lake tahoe on jan 29 to feb 3 2010 and was at first looking at heavenly and found a place called forrest suites resort for about $100 a night. Then after some research am looking that heavenly might not be the best place for new skiers who only do greens (wife) and me that only has done greens and easy blues in breckenridge. I am seeing that more and more people are telling me to go to northstar. I liked heavenly because it was close to the lake and my wife wants to do the boat also the hotel looked pretty good and things to do in area looked great. Now for northstar I can't seem to find cheap but decent hotels in area or things to do except for the village. How far is northstar from heavenly and can we just take a boat or do we have to drive there? What things are near-by that we can do in northstar. Is the heavenly are better and worth driving to northstar back and forth for 2-3 dats of sking? THANKS FOR HELP

My personal opinion is that you'll have a better time at Heavenly. While it may be technically true that Northstar is better for beginners, there's still plenty of beginners that go to Heavenly. You'll have better lodging options near Heavenly. The feel of Heavenly is much more of a ski town with the gondola going right to the street. At Northstar, things are a little more remote. At Heavenly, you can walk to a bunch of bars and restaurants and take the Heavenly ski bus if you're staying near the main street. At Northstar, you'll have to drive to places if you want to go somewhere other than the base of the mountain. The lake is about 15 minutes from Northstar, but it's in walking distance of Heavenly. I would not recommend planning on driving between Northstar and Heavenly - if it's snowing, the drive could take more than an hour and up to two hours. If you're staying down near Heavenly and you find that Heavenly isn't quite what you're looking for, you can also go to Sierra (Northstar's sister mountain) or Kirkwood from down there.

But three days of skiing may be too much for the beginners. You could potentially mix things up and ski one day at Homewood and one at Alpine Meadows or Squaw Valley. (For complete reviews, check out my North Lake Tahoe Ski Guide.) Then leave the third day open. Id caution against getting a three-day ticket if youre out of shapethink leg burn!

That’s a war ship? I think most ski boats in Texas are better armed than that.

Never has it been more evident to me that 'things' are simply clutter. About a decade ago, I declared to my children nearing Christmas time, “This year I will no longer give you “things” – I wish to help create memories.”

They will never remember the gifts wrapped in pretty paper, but they will remember the trip to the Golden Gate bridge gazing back across at their brother's home, the photo of them in a gnarled tree before driving to Tahoe to ski for what turned out to be our last skiing trip.

It is painul for one of them to struggle to recreate her childhood of excess and to view the pain that accompanies her expenditures of both coins and energy. And I do hope that at some time she, too, can remember that memories do not fade like the crumpled paper followed by credit card statements that add exhoritantly to the price of the moment.

Own a boat?…what planet are you on? Most people only make enough to live on far less buy a boat. Only a dream to the majority of people in Britain

yes! you can definitley learn on an outboard. as long as your boat has a big enough engine to get you up and go about 21- 24 mph. the size of the board depends on height weight etc. check out liquidforce.com or hyperlite.com to look at boards, they have sizing charts and stuff
