sunfish sailboats for sale
Good small sailboat for a summer project?
Looking for ideas of a small sailboat that is fairly common and easy to get parts for to work on over the summer. I've ruled out a laser. I think a 420 or a sunfish would work any other suggestions?
Boat must be 14ft or less one or two people preferably two
Normally you work on a boat over the winter & sail it in the summer:-)
for cheap look for an old Mirror dinghy or a Puffin Pacer or a Heron. (all good old English designs that have proven their suitability for novices) Whether they're what you want depends a lot on how big you & your crew are. The Mirror & Heron are more father & son boats the Pacer will happily handle 2 normal adults. If you are both large look at a 420 or a Corsair or similar.
There are many old beach cats but you'll learn to sail faster in a dinghy. (& a Hoby 14 is a dog with 2 adults up)
Try your local sailing clubs - they can offer advice on what is popular in your area & may well know of a suitable boat for sale. (while you're there look at joining &/or taking lessons there too)
