Sunesta Clean
Volvo Penta I/O or Mercruiser?
Looking to buy a used boat. Was told by a boat mechanic that Mercruiser is probably cheaper to work on and easier to find parts for but both are good engines. I can't remember but he said either the Apha or Bravo is cheaper to work on to due to the fact the impeller is easier to change.
I just found the boat my wife said she has to have. 2005 Chaparral Sunesta 236.
It does have the Volvo Penta 5.7 GI-E engine with 36 hours. The outdrive says type-SX-M, S/N 4202133082, Product type 3868890.
Can anyone give me the good/bad of this engine and drive.

The entire package you are looking at is a great boat and engine.The engine a 5.7 GI. is a GM 350.The SX drive is a great drive and with proper maintenance you should have many years of worry free boating.To have only 36 hours on the boat means it was not driven very much.Most boaters put at least 40 hours a year on there boats,some more some less.With 36 hours on this boat means as I said it was not used much or they unhooked the hour meter because remember this is an 8 year old boat.If everything is clean and looks well maintained and the price is right then it's a great boat.
