Rogue Fishing Boats
fishing boat question?
My friend and i are considering buying a boat to go fishing in waters near our houses in new york. (mostly calm water) We are not sure what kind of boat to get. Keep in mind we are only teenagers with limited money looking to spend no more than $350. i know sports authority has a canoe for this price but am not sure if this would be ideal for fishing. There are also numerous "inflatable boats". Now i dont know if i should trust this because of the fear that it may pop. Any good cheap boats that you guys are aware of? What kind of boat should we pursue?
What you want is a 10 to 14 foot flat bottom boat. They are light enough to drag in and out of the water. The flat bottom makes it where they don't tip steep to one side when you have the front of the boat on the shore and you are getting in. most flat bottoms have built in sockets to put oars in for rowing but I recommend you buy the cheapest electric trolling motor you can find and a half way decent car battery to run it. I have a 14 foot flat bottom and I love it. When you get older or have use of a car, you can tie it to the top and take it anywhere. If you come into some money you can watch for a deal on a gas motor and just keep getting better and better. My 14 footer can take 4 people and I can load it onto the roof of my van myself. If you get one that leaks you can put automotive silicone on the leak (such as leaky rivets or a crack) and it will not leak again any time soon. This will be the kind of boat that you will never want to get rid of and it will grow with you as your fishing adventures change. A v bottom of the same size would be okay, but they always weigh a bit more.

I'v enjoyed catching up on recent events. Our time together in Utah was a blessing. Thanks for creating this space for sharing. That photo of you handling the canvas reminds me of the day you and I spent out on the salt water in my boat 'Osprey'. We sailed proudly out the inlet along with the bazillion dollar sport fishing boats, the mega yachts, the freighters and all the rest, even though our yacht was an 18 foot wooden dory rigged to sail. When I saw the photo you posted my first thought was I wish I had a photo from that day. My mind keeps a beautiful color photo of you as I sat across from you and we talked. In the picture the sea is your backdrop, and the soundtrack includes the slap of the wave, the ruffle of the sail, the creak of the spar, and the sparkle of the sun off the gulfstream blue water.
A recent Newsweek article describes our brain as a bundle of neurons, each individually no smarter than an amoeba. Yet it stores that memory complete with audio and video … now if I could just remember wher I put my car keys.
