used ski boat
my 85 century ski boat has problems taking off.?
the boat has been sitting for 5 months. its a 4 cyl. it just took $40 dollars worth of premium. 3.95 a gal. every time i try to accelerate it dies. i have to use throttle only then idle then go, to get it to go. it still had some fuel left in it, is the old fuel causing this?
Im thinking the boat had fuel stuck in it for 5 months that is gunking up the lines/filter/carburetors. Check them all and clean as necessary. Be extremely careful cleaning the carbs because they are so so so sensitive. If you dont know how to do it than bring it to a boat shop.

Ski Trick:Around The Boat

Now, that looks like fun! Less dangerous than with boats, too, I should think. There are too many accidents around here in the summer with too many ski-boats and too much beer on the lake.I got through high school mostly unscarred, but still carry the shadow of a nice slice from a slalom water ski. Kiteboarding is huge down the coast, around Corpus Christi – also windsurfing. The winds there are stronger than ours and steady – they have competitions there all the time because of the dependable conditions. Sometimes, the competitions move offshore when the Gulf flattens. It looks to me like you’d have to be in really good condition, though – they track for miles.
Peacocks are the symbols of the little hamlet in which I live. They are featured prominently in all city adverts, street signs, etc. This is from the throw-back days of Art Nouveau when the city was hosting lots of Arts&Crafts artisans, Tiffany folks, etc. . . anyway, the city still has several peacock pairs strutting around. When I was attending our fine college here, we had a couple of pairs on campus. They were beautiful but pushy – worse than the squirrels (who will accost you for food) and the pigeons. . . and LOUD. One of the pairs likes to hang around the English dept building. Nothing breaks a lecture like a raucous Peacock mating call. . .or fight. Yikes. After awhile though their noises tend to just merge with the other sounds like ski boats, skateboards, and the various cellphone ringtones.Some friends of ours own quite the lakefront estate – gorgeous grounds overlooking one of the prettier lakes – we were at a party there once and all their lanai doors were wide open . . .and in struts a pair of peacocks. Their Labs went crazy, the peacocks went berserk, and it was hysterical when all these guests in their glittering party outfits tried to corral the birds and shoo them out the doors. Luckily, only one piece of art was destroyed – a beautiful Raku piece. But considering the priceless art in the house. . .they got off lightly. We all still talk about the Peacock party.
p.s. I rebuilt 283s in HS for water ski boats and 56/57 Chevys.

Good to know. Now let me tell you a bit about the end of the river, where it flows into the Gulf. I used to work around the area for around 10 years or so. The very last place with a road is Venice, LA. It’s a sort of port for the oil industry. Beyond that, on the east side of the river is one more small settlement called Pilot Town, where they pick up the river pilots to bring the big freighters in. (Required by law) Other than that, there are no other towns beyond. There are oil facilities around on both sides with canals that parallel the river between the ocean and the river. Those are calmer than the river in currents but usually have crew boat traffic on occasion and seaplane travel on the rare occasion. The very end, the last mile if you will, is a rabble dike on both sides and no land. If there is bad weather, it gets nasty right in there. Getting back from the end may not be quite as much fun as getting there. Lots of traffic in the river from Venice on down, barges, crew boats, freighters, and ski boats, doing taxi service for third party quick runs. On both sides are break waters that extend out into the river that serve as markers for the channel with radar reflectors. I’ve seen the [USS go up the river before. I’m glad you have experience. The lower end isn’t for the beginner though it would seem to be. While you are in the lower area, there is an old civil war fort on both sides of the river. It was put there to prevent the old sail ships from coming up to New Orleans. The west side has a museum of stuff found on the grounds. They had chains they would stretch across the river at night with cannon to take any ship out while it could not maneuver. I wish you well on your trip. Wish I could join you but such is not possible at this time.
