shallow water jet boats
need an expert ... help !?
i got a 14 ft flat bottom bass tracker belive it or not its only rated for 10 hp but i have a mercury 20 hp JET there for it looses about 30 percent of its power at the jet pump but what i want to know can it be done and will it run the same and i plan on reinforceing the back of the boat with some oak boards to add alot of strenth to it so what do you guys think about this situation im in ????????????oh and theres one other problem i run this boat in very shallow water with rock ledges allaround me in the water and sometimes tend to hit them but if i do hit 1 with this motor on there what you think might happen ?

It must be very lightly built to be only rated at 10hp. It would be better to reinforce it for a larger than spec. engine.
I assume you are talking about the losses in the jet drive of 30% compared to a propellor on the same engine. That would depend on how the power is measured on those setups too i.e. at the flywheel or at the jet. Even then the power output may exceed 140% of rated power for that hull. You will have to be careful if you choose to go down this route.
People are only advising you to get a bigger boat, or an uprated stronger one due to the way the law and insurance is structured, it is good advice. In the end you will do as you wish.
I guess the throttle is the easiest way to control the power, don't be foolish and you won't have too many issues. I personally don't have a problem with overpowering, I might if you run into me due to you not being able to control your overpowered rocket ship though. As for running into things the whole point of the jet is to skim over things - without a whole leg and prop dangling down you should not collect things too hard. Without seeing your set up in the flesh so to speak it is hard to have an opinion regarding that. Best not to hit anything obviously, unless you hook up on the ledges you refer to you probably would not have too many problems, however hitting ANYTHING at speed can have serious consequences.
The rule is that is if you are uncertain of your visibility or water you reduce speed, and proceed with caution. If you know there are rocks etc. then you must be careful - otherwise it is grossly reckless.

It varies by state, But if it was a DUI or OWI, yes it does affect your license anywhere in the U.S., not sure about the speeding infractions……
Well, if you were boating and someone told you the waters on up the river were shallow waters, it would mean there would be a good chance your boat would get stuck. If you were diving into shallow waters, you could break your neck when you hit bottom way to early. OK, if someone tells you the waters are shallow when they are talking about something that doesn't have anything to do with water, they are warning you that if you continue doing whatever it is you are doing, it will turn out very bad. It is a warning to you. LISTEN UP!!
No the rain water does not soak through the corral in that part of the country.
your well is pulling water from the ground water table there are actually several formation depths that have ground water.
Its basically an under ground river that is filleted by the sand and rock in the specific formation. Just a simple description.
