can seller just sign over title of boat
does a boat titled in florida, need to be notarized when transferring to another buyer?
I highly recommend that any transfer of title on a boat be completed at one of the many branch locations of the County Tax collectors.
This will protect both the buyer and the seller from any unforeseen complications. As a seller, you are still legally responsible for the boat (and can be suid for any damages) until and up to the moment the title is transferred.
As a buyer, this avoids any issues of the seller not having a clear title, or any liens on the vessel.
I just bought a boat in Florida and the seller and I went together to the nearest County Tax Collectors office and finalized the deal right there. I am almost positive, the transaction was notarized, but I don't know if it is mandatory to do so. For sure however, the Notary stamp sets a legal time and date of the transfer.

PS. There was a question on here last week from a guy that was asking how what he should do, because he bought a boat over a year ago and never transfered the title in his name. So, just because you sign it over, doesn't guarantee they will actually transfer it, and that leaves you responsible.
