Is a Sea Ray or a Caravelle a better boat?
We are looking at 2 different boats. Once is a 1993 Caravelle Fish & Ski. V6, never run in salt water. The other is a 1996 Sea Ray 18ft with 3.0 Mercruiser. Does anybody have any thoughts on which boat is the better boat quality wise? We are just looking for a family boat to take out on the ocean. Both are priced around $4000.
I vote for the Sea Ray. Sea Ray is better built boat.

Have you seen the prime-time TPIR? The Showcase Showdown is up in the $80k range. I think I saw one that was over $100k. You will need to know the price of things like Vipers, large ski boats, etc. if you're going to see Bob in prime time.

The Sea Ray sounds overpriced. Check out Skipper Buds web site. The inventory for all of their dealerships is on line. I think you will find good used Sea Rays for less. Larsons are also very good quality and sometimes can be had for less than Sea Rays. Only if the Sea Ray is in extremely good condition and very low hours like under 200 would it even approach the value of a new Bayliner that is the same size and with the same sized engine. The engines and out drives are pretty much the same whether it is Sea Ray or Bayliner. MerCruiser and Volvo own the market. So the variables are all of the rest. Given what you asked, and assuming you can't find a better priced used Sea Ray or Larson, I would definitely opt for the Bayliner. The quality difference is not as great as boat snobs would have you believe.
