How to start a conversation with a 14 year old guy on the phone?
Ok hes 14 im 13 we really like each other but when we get on the phone we dont know what to talk about help me please?
There are always a few good topics to discuss. You can start by talking about school. You're both young and in school, and there is usually a lot of stuff going-on with school. You could discuss people you know, teachers, homework, dances, fundraisers, band, sports, bake sales, or even boredom with school. There are a lot of things to discuss in that topic.
Another way to go, is to find-out what he likes. People love to talk about themselves and their interests. Once you have discussed their interests, its easy to transition into your interests, and then discuss common interests. So, lets say you saw him wear a baseball hat. Well, the World Series is going-on, and even if his favorite team isn't playing, he may at least be following the games. If he plays football, or soccer, then maybe he'd like to discuss that. Maybe he plays an instrument, or likes a specific band. You could discuss that. If you're not sure what band he may like, then ask him. Even if you're not familiar with that band, you could discuss the genre.
You could discuss movies you've seen, or want to see. You can talk about what genre of movies you like and maybe favorite scenes in movies. You can discuss TV shows, or new shows you've seen advertised. You could even discuss the media's impact on others or advertising or anything media related.
If he likes video games, then you could discuss that. Maybe he has a pet, or maybe you do. Heck, maybe you both do. That might be something to discuss. Most people love animals.
If he does something that you've always wanted to learn, then maybe you can have him teach you or at least describe something or tell a story about doing it. Storytelling is a great way to get a conversation going. You can discuss stories from your past, or even ones that occurred that day. Make sure to use action verbs and create a scene and include sensory details, that stimulate the 5 senses, so that your stories are interesting.
You can discuss interesting news. This doesn't have to be political, or crime. It could be weird stuff too. I just read they are opening a space hotel in 2012. Apparently, it will cost $4.4 million dollars for a 3-night stay and they already have a lot of people who have signed-up. Its kinda neat to think people will be vacationing in outer-space soon. Even if you're not into space, its still kinda interesting, considering they'll circle the globe every 80-minutes, and will see 12 sunrises a day. So, news like that tends to appeal to people, and creates conversation. There are news sources for just about any topic you could possibly find interesting, and it might be good to research one, to find something to discuss.
You could even discuss how shy you are. Sometimes just admitting this opens-up all sorts of opportunities to discuss your feelings and past stories. It may even be a way to bond with one another. Its alright to admit you're human and have flaws like shyness. People appreciate hearing that, and can relate to that.
Sometimes its just good to ask questions. Then listen to the answer and ask follow-up questions. Then react to those answers and start adding to the conversation with your own observations. That's how most conversations work.
If nothing else, you can always discuss your interests and hobbies and then ask him what interests him. If you don't want to begin with his interests, then you can begin with yours and then include him in the conversation. If he shares one of your interests, he may begin asking you questions about it, which can further the conversation. It doesn't even have to be something you're good at. If you have a dream of someday sailing around the world, but you've never been on a sailboat, then you can still discuss it. Maybe he has been on one, and it may lead to an interesting story.
If you or he is creative, you can even direct the conversation to that topic. Lets say you like to draw, or play an instrument. Well, those are both pretty neat, and they open-up a wide array of things to discuss. You could discuss how the art makes you feel, how you got started, what styles you enjoy, a concert or gallery you went to, places you'd like to go to, or things you'd like to learn.
You can also discuss upcoming events. "Well, my family and I are doing this for ____ holiday, what are you and yours doing?" We have a lot of holidays coming-up and that may be something interesting to discuss.
