Boats Crashing and Flipping - Sailing Extreme 40 Catamarans
I have a few questions about sailboats.?
-What is the ratio of mast height to keel size/length?
-What is the ratio of sail area to keel size/length?
-What is the ratio of mast height to rudder size/length?
-What is the ratio of sail area to rudder size/length?
If you know the answer to any of these questions, please help me. This is for a model sailboat that will compete with others to find the fastest boat.
Even if you know the ratios in a real-life sailboat, give them anyway.
All of the above pertaining to a real sized boat do not pertain to a model boat. A model needs to be appreciably deeper, owing to increased pressure of water as it gets deeper. The keel needs to be deeper in proportion to the mast height and sail area. Rudder size needs to be larger as it acts as a moment of resistance, as does the keel.
We had a Americas cup model boat and these we determined. I have also made small models.
We have sailed dinghys and keel boats up to 50 feet.
