Why is my power steering stiff?
I just bought a 21ft rinker bowrider w/ a 4.3l mercruiser motor and outdrive (CHEVY). On the first run on water the steering was extremely stiff. At first i could hardly turn the wheel. Eventually it loosened up a bit but still stiffer than i would have expected. I checked the fluid when i got the boat out of the water and the resevour was full. Any tips to troubleshooting?
Try turning the steering witout the motor running, and then with the motor running. if the force required is about the same, you probably have a seized steering cable, which is common. If the force required is different, then i would suspect a power steering component.

2000 Rinker 192 Captiva?
My wife and I are wanting to buy our first boat. I have driven plenty of boats but never owned one. I found a 2000 Rinker that seems to be in good shape(from the pics anyway). It has the 4.3 motor, cover, bimini top, cd player and is 19ft. Any opinions? I have two kids and a dog. Will it be big enough? Enough HP? Good boat in general? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Rinker makes good boats. For a 19ft boat that 4.3 will have more than enough power for anyone. This would be a fast boat, easily could pull multiple skiers or just go for fast cruise. I have a 19 ft boat and I'm very satisfied w/ size. Any bigger than 19ft becomes a hassle to haul and launch. If you think you need bigger you will want to get a dock slip. Also with how new this boat is you can expect a significant depreciation in value over the next couple of years. Just something to think about. Good luck boat hunting!
