What size outboard motor should I buy?
I have a 13.5 foot aluminum boat that is really old. It does not have the coast guard plates on it anymore, and my friend and I are restoring it. It is a V-hull, but is also very shallow, with two people there is about 8 inches of water clearance, what size motor will get this boat moving well even in decent river currents but is still safe?
a 9.9 Hp Motor should be enough motor, and this size motor will allow you to use your boat on lakes that have the 10 Hp motor restriction. If you are not going to use this boat on a lake and in rivers only, you may be able to go to a 12 Hp motor as long as you go with the lighter 2 cylinder motors.
