Need some boat advice?

Hey, so I'm pretty familiar with boats, my finace and I own one at the moment, but he wants a bigger one. I've been trying to find one for him, I was to surprise him, but I need a little help here. I found a decent one, just want to know if this will cause us problems in the future. It's a 19.5ft Reinell Cuddy Cabin. It says in-line 6 chev needs replacing, what does this mean? I probably sound like a newbie asking that but need some help please! Also it says bottom end knock,, what does that mean as well? And the guy owned it for 18 years, will the engine still be in good standing?
Thanks for any help
Hey Mike, thank you very much. I'm not sure of the rest of the stuff you mentioned Only what I said was stated in the ad.
IF I did end up getting this boat, would it be hard finding parts for it, if needed?
Thank you

I wouldn't even give this boat a second thought. There are lots of newer boats in really good shape for far less than their value these days. Since this is also at the end of the boating season, you should be able to find some great deals too. I don't know what you own at the moment, but a 19.5 ft boat is still a very small boat. You don't mention a budget, but you should already have what you're willing to spend already in mind. That Reinell is toast and nothing but problems, now and till it's scrapped out. When you do find something that you like, arrange to have to boat looked over by a marine service center and you pay for it. This way you have control of the situation and not going to the sellers' buddy and give you a bunch of BS.

I own three different boats currently and the oldest is a '98 which still runs like new. The reason is that I have service done every 100 hrs of use. I keep all of my receipts/repair orders to prove what I say happened. I also keep all of the expenses on a spreadsheet so I know how much I've paid for everything over the years too. You should be looking and asking LOTS of questions along those lines before considering any boat. Price should be one of the last things to enter the discussion. Be sure after having the boat inspected, to have the boat put into the water and drive it for at least 20 minutes to make sure everything is working properly. If the seller disagrees with any of these standard demands, walk away from the boat. The seller is hiding some problem from you.

“Instantly all my complicated ideas of how to fit extra seats and storage in the pilothouse disappeared when I saw how small the interior really is. The whole boat looks very compact and manageable laid out like this. In my mind it had grown huge and complicated.”

Hi, I don't know who you are yet… I haven't seen a personal profile… maybe I missed it.
Great blog though. I like the boat too… a mini tug, is it not.

Regarding the above passage: Isn't it neat how everything keeps getting larger in your mind's eye, and then your standing in front of the boat again and you suddenly realize all your grand ideas just won't fit ! I do this too. I'm not building but, restoring an old (1961) plywood power boat. A 17 footer with a cuddy cabin. I keep coming up with ideas about the seating… how long they will be, how wide, how much room there will be to lounge around… and then I walk into the shop and stand before my boat and think… I've gotta think smaller :(

Anyway… great site here, keep up the work. The pictures are great too.
I've added a link on my blog to this page, hope you don't mind.
