Edward Bowen, long-standing editor of various american racing magazins, writes book after book, mainly about american-bred horses and people, and this one - the title does tell us its a sequence- is just as good as they all are. Bowen has his own style - he likes long sentences, is slightly old-fashioned, but does know what he is talking about and his passion for his subject shines through every line; but once you are in his rhythm, you cannot help but being fascinated.

Bowen chronicles the families of some very influencial broodmares, in Volume 2 all American though, even though some do spread to Europe of course.

All books have family-tables, loads of great photos, and are a treat for the pedigree-affectionado! They are, however, clearly wasted on just the average racing-, and gambling-, Fan.
