The Good:
1. They fold up and require very little room in the storage compartment of the PWC. I'd say the size of a softball fully when stored empty.
2. The hook seems durable enough to get a few seasons out of it. Looks easy to replace, but I can see it failing after a while.
3. Ample length of rope to tie down. I used it on a sandbar with approx 2ft. depth and had plenty of rope.
The Bad:
No numbering here, the only bad part is that the drawstrings tend to come open unless you securely tie them off in a knot. If using rocks or other bulky ballast not an issue, but sand tends to "drift" out in the current and then gets light enough to allow the PWC to drift. Common sense is required here too, obviously there is no hook like traditional anchors so if your in rough seas or lakes they WILL drift...
Worth the price and I would recommend as long as you're ok with still keeping an eye on them for when they do drift.
I really like these anchors. I get a good amount of use out of them before they ultimately fail. I am now on my fifth sand anchor as the previous one that I show in the video has failed. I've actually just ordered another as a backup as well, so that makes six of these for me.
Here's the bottom line - there is a common failure point of the nylon webbing that connects the rope to the anchor - all four of my previous anchors have had this connection ultimately fail. I get almost two seasons or so out of these, and then that nylon webbing tears and the anchor meets my garbage can. With that said, I always examine the anchors before each use, and I have never had one fail while in the water.
If I didn't like these anchors, I would never have given them four stars. I recognize that there is going to be some amount of a service life with this type of setup, and clearly, I have identified that service life for my particular usage. Doing the math - six of these over nine years, with costs ranging from as low as $15 to as high as $23 for this latest order, and I've spent around $113 over the course of those nine years. One could strongly argue that the current price of $23 is out of line, and I would not disagree - they need to get that cost down. The average cost for these in my case has been about $18.50 each - that seems like a more reasonable price.
So as to the four-star review - I do like these anchors and they have held up well enough to make me happy. But, ONE COULD MAKE A STRONG ARGUMENT for only giving these anchors a three-star review given the repeated failure point. Perhaps if the company is seeing/reading my review, they can take action with a materials improvement to prevent the failure from occurring by making that connection more durable. As I mentioned in my video, if it were not for that failure point, I think I could get four or five seasons out of these anchors.
I have yet to fill the anchor bag to where it looks like the one in the product photos as it holds well without getting carried away.
Heavier craft & harder currents? You might want to replace the plastic carabiner with a metal one.
