Landing with pontoons?
If you have a plane with pontoons, can you land on ANY lake? what is the protocol for water landings ( a fly over the intended landing place, then hope like hell a boat dosent get in your way?)? any extra info. on water landings and why most small planes perfer to land at airports would be greatly appreciated.
As far as I know,pilots will sweep the area before landing. But again this is done with many bush strips.
Many small aircraft are equipped with floats because it saves money and time and adds flexibility. Runways, even small grass strips, cost money to be laid out straight and maintained.( cutting the grass every once in a while, making sure the surface is not to wet etc) Using water as your runway( which means 70% of the planet) saves the above as well adds room. Small strips are often shorter than 1000ft.
As far as water operations are concerned they are not that diffrent. What I do know is that pilots during taxi pull the stick all the way back to help keep out the prop and engine out of the wash. On takeoff, it's very much like a soft field takeoff. The name of the game is to try to minimize time on the water. This is because it creates drag against the water and slows the plane down. Pilots will rotate then hover in groundeffect for a while to gain speed and continue with their climb. Because of the added area of floats, Seaplanes are generally slower that their landbased counterparts.

There are lots of marinas in the Lake area. Many of them have a variety of boats for rent. You'll just have to shop around and find the one you want at the price you want. Enjoy Party Cove!

See, pontoon boats are redneck versions of boats. Do you know how many coolers of beer with fit on one of those? And you can float around all day and fish, and even watch tv.
Pontoons are not boats, they are floating docks.
