pontoon houseboats
Pontoon conversion to houseboat?
Hello I want to find a 18" to 25" pontoon and convert it into a house boat. I am just curious what to look for in a eligible used pontoon boat and how I could make this a successful build. I want a nice deck area to put a chair and I would like a queen sized matters probably. Any help is great.
First of all, a Pontoon boat is a terrible foundation for a house boat. It's unstable and will have poor balance. The pontoons aren't able to support much weight either. You may think it's a good foundation, but it's not. Go look at the load rating on the Build Plate for a pontoon in that size, it's really low! 1200 lbs is the maximum SAFE load for the 25' frame. Then you have balance issues, food storage, general storage, restroom, freshwater storage, and a host of other things to add into the mix, and we haven't even got to the bed yet.
We have many live aboard Houseboats in our marina so I see and know something about them. Get a real boat and live on that for awhile before pumping money into a bad idea.
