why is gas tank on my sun tracker pontoon boat in the water?
Hold it. . . No need to panic. No need to call anyone. It is as it should be.
I assume you have the redesigned model Sun Tracker - with the extended motor pod that has the fuel tank in the pod. And yes, this is in the water. . . It is "smartly" designed this way.
Think about it. . . take a gallon of water or gallon of milk, and lower it in your bathtub that's full of water. . . Feel how much lighter the gallon of water or milk feels? This is the same with fuel.
I built boats for 40 years - and whenever possible, always put the fuel tanks below the water line for this very reason. Many pontoons have 40 gallon fuel tanks - 40 gallons of gas weighs just over 240 lbs above the waterline - but it weighs nothing below the waterline, and in fact has a positive buoyancy. This design change is a very smart move by Sun Tracker.
Furthermore, it is certainly not against any Federal, Sate, or International Maritime Laws - as most every vessel in the world is designed in this manner - it just wasn't so common in pontoon boats, and the location of it is therefore more obvious.
