Archbishop's Mansion -- Royal Rest
This 1904 French chateau mansion, built for the Archbishop of San Francisco, can be found on the northeast corner of Alamo Square Park near the city's famous Painted Ladies.
Beds: Named for an opera and decorated in its honor, each of the 10 rooms and five suites includes a king- or queen-size bed with a full or partial canopy, period antiques and fine linens. Some rooms offer a whirlpool tub, fireplace or partial view of downtown. Among the special touches: an immense canopied four-poster bed with elaborate carvings in the Don Giovanni suite and a claw-foot tub sitting by a wood-burning fireplace in the Carmen Suite.
Breakfast: A deluxe continental breakfast is delivered to each guest room.
More: Magnificent woodwork and opulent décor fill the mansion's common areas. An evening wine and cheese reception is served in the parlor and concierge services are available.
Chateau Tivoli -- Victorian Vision
Hand-carved woodwork, crystal chandeliers, period wallpapers, Oriental carpets and Victorian furnishings adorn the 1892 Chateau Tivoli, one of the famous Painted Ladies of San Francisco's Alamo Square district.
Beds: The inn houses four suites: the third-floor Mark Twain, offering a towering, mirrored king canopy bed, parlor and tower sitting area with a view; the second-floor Luisa Tetrazzini Suite, boasting an 18th-century queen canopy bed from the Charles DeGaulle estate, parlor with fireplace, balcony and marble bathroom with double shower; and two ground-floor suites, each with two bedrooms with double beds and a private entrance. There are also five guest rooms: the third floor has two rooms with double beds and a shared bath, and the second floor contains one room with a queen bed and two rooms with double beds (one also has a fireplace).
Breakfast: On weekdays, breakfast consists of pastries, cereals, fruit, juices, and custom-blended coffees and teas. Brunch, featuring a warm main dish and champagne, is provided on weekends.
More: This bed and breakfast was named "the best Victorian in San Francisco" and the "greatest Painted Lady in the world" by Elizabeth Pomada and Michael Larson in "Painted Ladies Revisited." Wine and cheese are served each afternoon.
Dockside Boat and Bed -- Nautical Nights
Dockside Boat and Bed is located at San Francisco's Pier 39, next to Fisherman's Wharf.
Beds: Guests can choose from several boats, such as motoryachts and sailboats. For example, a 42-foot NautiCat Motorsailer features a raised pilothouse/salon area, seating for four on deck, a master stateroom with king-size bed and bath, a second stateroom with double berth and bath, a galley and a dinette.
Breakfast: A continental breakfast is available.
More: The boats remain dockside and offer easy access to Pier 39's shops and restaurants. The location provides beautiful views of the bay.
