glastron fishing boats
Which Boat Would You Take?
I bought a 1977 Glastron SSV 188 Ski Boat with a 140hp motor from a guy for $1500.
He told us he was going to buy a couple other boats with the money (we bought truck for $700 also)
because his family was mad about him selling the Glastron.
Well he bought 2 more boats and wants to know if I want to trade the Glastron for:
1989 Bayliner Capri 1600 16ft.
I think its a power boat instead of ski boat? it doesn't have as much seating or anything but it is newer.
The Glastron will need some work done...minor things like, ripped seat, faded, carpet, etc.
I havent seen the Bayliner yet.
Considering the Bayliner is in approximately the same shape as the Glastron....which would your reccomend?
(i like to fish and also the glastron came with skis and a tube.)
You didn't say what motor is on the Capri. If it's a Force outboard, it could be problems. They are reliable, but are entry levell motors - not generally known for longevity.
If it has an IO, it will likely be a chevy 4 banger. Those are great motors. Lots of torque, and the motor will last forever if you take care of it. They are easy on fuel too.
Bayliner Capri's are usually sole as package deals, and are considered entry level boats. The interiors tend to dry rot sooner then more expensive boats if parked outside. Garage kept or covered makes this a non issue.
The Capri rides great, and if it has the correct (max allowed) motor, it will pull skiers just fine The thing I don't care for are the long side windown. They limit room. and
The Glastron is a really good boat. It's a little heavier then the Capri, but rides better. You won't be getting any fuel economy out of that old 140 though. that motor runs reliably, and should yank skiers just fine.
Personally, unless that Cpri is an IO, I'd stick to the Glastron.
