Instead of complaining, you should at least let people know your general location. Fishing around Long Beach or Seattle or New Orleans or Miami could be very very different. Since you mentioned the world "Pacific", I will list some items people use for ocean fishing around Southern California.

Baits:
Live bait – squid, anchovy, mackerel and sardines. You could buy them at bait barges. If bait barges don't have the bait (it happens sometimes) or the bait looked as if they are almost dead already, you probably need to catch your own live bait. We use size 8 sabiki rigs with 1oz or heavier sinkers to catch small mackerels and sardines. They are fairly easy to catch when you're on a boat.
Cut bait – Frozen squid, shrimp, octopus, sardines, and mackerel were fairly common. Among them, squid is the most common bait used. Cut baits were used frequently when people were bottom fishing.

Rods & reels
People used rods as light as medium action freshwater spinning rods up to very stiff trolling that would easily lift 100 pounds depending on their target specie. Since you don't know what your target species were, I'll just list 3 popular rental rod specs.
1) 7 to 8 ft spinning rod rated for lines up to 30 pounds. The reel is almost always a Penn spinning reel that will hold around 330 yards of 20 test line. They spool the reel with 15-20 pounds test line.
2) 7ft boat rod with Penn 500 reel. A lot of those rods were rated for 40 pound test lines. The reel were usually spooled with 30 to 40 pound test line.
3) 7ft boat rod with Penn 4/0 reel. Rod specs unknown. Reels were usually spooled with lines between 50 to 80 pound test mono.

Tackles
Hooks – Live bait hooks between size 4 or size 2 up to 5/0 or 7/0. You don't need every size and you could skip some sizes. The key is to have different sizes of hooks on hand to accommodate different sizes of live bait.
Sinkers – You want some split shot sinkers to get your live bait fish down the water column when necessary. You want some torpedo sinkers between 1oz to 6oz if you planned on using sabiki rigs; use heavier sinkers on bigger live bait fish to prevent tangles in your own sabiki rig. For bottom fishing, you want sinkers between 2oz to 3 pounds. You need to use heavy sinkers when the water was very choppy and/or very deep waters. Again, you could skip sizes. (For example: 2oz, 4oz, 8oz, 1 pound and 2 pounds.)

PS: When I saw "certain fish", the thought of mackerels filled my mind for a second or two.

And sorry I forgot to add my location I didn't think about it and you can't go back after submitting but I mean what difference does it make. I said, "tell me how to catch them "certain fish" and that's what I'll fish for". I just needed some general knowledge so I don't waist my time.
