Are motor yachts suited to cross-ocean travel, eg, UK to USA?
I mean the luxury six-berth charter yacht kind
Sure. Your main concern would be weight, length and how deep the Hull is. These factors will determine how well the Boat will "Ride the Waves". Example; a Boat 38 Feet in length that may only rise 6 Feet out of the water and weight around 5 tons may toss more in a 6 foot wave and have water coming over the Deck. A boat 65 Feet in length that may rise 10 Feet out of the water and weight around 50 tons will handle a 6 foot wave with ease and may only get a Spray coming over the Deck. BUT, both boats can handle the Ocean. A friend of mine has a 42 foot sail boat and has traveled around the world!

Can u cross the Ocean with a ordinary small motorboat ?
Nothing like a yacht i mean like a fairly cheap and small 1-3 person boat or something like that would it work ?
No... No... Absolutely not... but then again... maybe...
KEEP THE DREAM - JUST RETHINK THE BOAT...
In a small motorboat - your first problem is fuel required both volume and weight of the fuel would sink your boat. Your fuel weighs slightly less then 8 lbs a gallon or 64 pounds a cubic foot and even the shortest ocean passage from the USA (Island hopping the Caribbean to Venezula has shortest distance between fuel stops) will require 1,000 gallons or 4 tons of fuel even in the most fuel efficient vessel. That means you would have to have 125 "cubic" feet of fuel tank space.
Now that we've taken care of your motorboat's fuel - you can double the weight and volume again for the room you will need to carry fresh water... you and your crew will drink about as much water as your boat consumes in fuel. So, you either need space for large water tanks or, a fresh water maker.
So... assuming you had that... you would still probably never make it past crossing the Gulf Stream before the sea swamped your vessel and turned you every which way but loose.
BUT DON'T LOOSE SIGHT OF THE DREAM -
JUST GET THE RIGHT BOAT.
People have crossed the Atlantic is sail boats, motor boats, row boats, rafts, and just about everything in-between - but not without tons of research and planning.
My suggestion of course, would be to learn to sail, (it is not hard to do, and it is easy to learn). Robin Lee Graham (first teenager to sail around the world alone - at age 16 - course it took him 5 years - did it in a 26 foot sloop)
I have attached a link under "source" - I think you will find very interesting - it is all about the very smallest of boats making gigantic voyages... Just remember.. the successful ones had experience and did an awful lot of research and planning...
