what size of yacht is required to safely cross the pacific??
I want to know what is considered the minimum length of a yacht intended for sailing/motoring across the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans from the US.
It's hard to answer this definitively. The design, outfitting, number of crew and personal comfort needs all come into play.
A couple people have chosen boats as small as 26-feet (Contessa 26) for solo circumnavigations, but most people would want something over 30 feet. Above this length you will hear various arguments for going larger or keeping it small. Bigger boats generally will have more comforts and be more sea kindly than smaller boats of the same design. They will be a bit faster which can mean less time exposed to weather. However, increasing boat and sail size also means greater forces which may mean more people to handle the boat, more severe injuries and more of a reliance on mechanical and electrical aids. Of course once you get over low 30s in length, boat prices and the cost of maintenance goes up geometrically.
I read an interesting report by the famous sailors Lynn and Larry Pardy which told how when an unexpected large storm hit Baja, it was the smaller boats that were able to get clear, mostly because they were easier for a couple to handle in rough weather.
For solo, I'd probably go about 30-32 feet. For 2-3 people, 33-35, etc.
Again, as important as size, is design, outfitting and the talent of people on board.
A couple I know recently crossed the Atlantic in a 30-foot pearson and reported it a fine passage.

Ocean 73 Super Sport
Is there an ocean going motor yacht with abilities of a Nordhavn but the interior of a Marquis? If not, why?
I love Nordhavns. (no experience though) They seem like a very capable ocean going vessel. However, their interiors look like the inside of a trailer camper. (no offense) Shouldn't a boat of this expense have interior styling more like that of say, the Marquis 40 sc? I'm not saying that the boat needs to be covered in white carpet, but cmon, you've got to see what I'm talking about.
I know there's a lot of boat manufacturers out there and I might have missed one. I'm looking for a nice ocean going vessel with nice interior styling without breaking $1M used.
What's your opinion?

Are there reasons I should shy away from the Marquis styling?
If you could have a small ocean going boat, what would it be?
1. Norhavns are styled to be a "Trawler" which means everything has form and function, not Italian Styling.
2. Nothing that I can think of with modern Italian interior style.
3. No reason to shy away from a Marquis. They do a lot of custom work for the buyer.
4. I already own a Marquis.
Italians don't design and build boats that go that slow other than a gondola.
