At what point does a boat receive a name?
I see sailboats and other small craft that are named, and things like kayaks and other mass produced boats have models.
What exactly is the definition of when it is acceptable to name a boat? Is it if it is hand built, regardless of size, that it receives a name? Is there a size distinction, so every boat over so many feet would be named?
Are there in fact any even general ideas about when to name a boat and what kinds of boats receive names?
I never see powerboats or pontoon boats with names-pretty much no trailered day cruiser boat seems to have a name.
So what gives?
I don't know where you are living but I see trailered boats with names on the stern all the time.
