mini pontoons
why did my 7 year old mini dachshund's eyes get watery while on a pontoon?
we were on it a ton last summer, and today was the first time we were on it since the ice melted. it was fairly cold (68 degrees) but there was little if no wind and the sun was shining bright but when she was not in the shade i held her so that she wasn't facing it. i looked at her and her eyes were watery (it looked like she was crying) which i've never seen before. one looked a little goopy too for a moment until i wiped it off. her eyes look normal now. should i take her to the vet or is this normal?
i thought i'd add that her behavior was normal. she was happy as always. very alert, wagging her tail, drinking water, and perching on my lap to enjoy the fresh air.
Since she's acting normally, and this only happened the one time, I think you're probably ok in holding off getting her to the vet. Don't forget...sunlight reflects off of water, so she could have been in the complete shade and still getting reflected light in her eyes. It's probably too soon for bugs and such that could irritate her eyes. Sounds like just an irritation...something akin to sticking their heads out the window and the air, bugs, sun, etc. can make them tear up. Good for you for being such an observant momma!!
