Why does Jon Huntsman want to portray himself as a moderate?
Doesn't he understand that he can never win the Republican primary if he doesn't become a tea-party radical who promises to eliminate SS and Medicare and give tax cuts to the rich?
I'm a Republican, not a moderate, not a tea-partier, certainly not a radical. I do not wish to eliminte SS -- how can you take away from pepole what they have paid for their entire lives? And Medicare? Something else that people have paid for all their lives. Why get rid of it? I've been paying Medicare tax since I can remember, and it darn well better be there when I need it after I've spent decades of paying it.
The fact is, Bill, you're not a man of Main Street. You have the luxury of having lots of money and being in the public eye, which pays you lots of money. You have the luxury to sit there and arm-chair quarterback because you get paid to do so. Try having a real job that requires you to go and talk to regular people every day. I'm not trying to be rude, but I will tell you exactly what I mean:
Back in the day I wanted to have a "fun" job. I had worked in both the public and private sectors for many years, and now I wanted to do something that didn't matter; that was just fun. I went to work as a sales woman at the mall. I used to stand around and listen to the young college girls complain about the rich. They didn't understand why you can't rich the tax into oblivion until they were at rist of losing their jobs. Only at that point did they realize that it was the rich womens' ability to come in and buy $100 face creams that gave them their jobs. When we had the downturn in the economy, those ladies quit coming in, and then those girls lost their jobs. And as the economy got worse and worse, the malls got less and less traffic, and more people lost their jobs. While those young girls were employed selling fancy stuff to rich ladies, they also had extra money to buy some things for themselves. Once they lost their jobs, they quit coming in on their days off shopping. Trickle down, you see; if it affects one, it affects all.
As "evil" as rich people may be, they still do support and undergird the middle and lower class. When the rich guy doesn't buy a yacht, the yacht maker is out of a job, period.
And let's not forget America's whopping corporate tax rate that does indeed prohibit business. Everyone complains about corporations taking their jobs overseas. Wonder why? Ireland has an 11% tax rate, while America has a 55% tax rate. I have a friend who invented a machine. He wanted to have it manufactured. He's an American and wanted to manufacture in America. But to manufacture his machine in America would have cost him $50 per unit, with a projected MSRP of $49.95. In China, however, they were able to manufacture his machine for a mere $7.00 per unit.
As my friend said, It wasn't a matter of doing business in America or China, it was a matter of doing business or not. Why does that make any sense?
Why does it make sense to drive our businesses away so that the government can spend half a million dollars to study shrimp on a treadmill? Or $85 on screws being sent to the military in Iraq? I mean last I checked you could buy a box of 100 screws for $6.00 at Home Depot and FedEx them to Iraq for a lot cheaper than $85.
Higher taxes drives up the price of everything, Bill. When was the last time you were personally in a grocery store? Let me tell you, last Spring my favorite brand of butter was $1.08. By the end of summer it was $1.66, almost a 60% rise in three months. That's what higher taxes have done. And it hurts all of us, not just the rich.
I'm not trying to be rude, but try walking around in the grocery store and see what it's like. Look in the faces of real people who are trying to decide whether to buy milk or meat. Yeah, some will complain that they should get "more" from the government. Most will tell you they just want a job.

You forgot one approach that I would actually list as #1 in order of priority – it is a Cost Per Deal advertising model which stands out separately from traditional advertising.
