Trying to find a good boat to fit my size.?
I am in the market for a boat but i want a good one to fit my size but also can go pretty much anywhere. I am 6ft 5in tall about 400lbs so i want something that will hold me and my gear and i can feel safe operating it. I want to stay in the 13 to maybe 16 thousand dollar price range also i am leaning towards something alluminum because i do a lot of catfishing and the places i would be going have a lot of stumps and stuff so i really don't want a fiberglass boat but i am open to all suggestions.
Well, the best branded aluminum boats are Alumacraft, Seaark, and Crestliner. If I had your budget, I'd definitely not go with a lower quality boat, (like a Lowe or Tracker). In fact, Seaark is the industry leader in durability, longevity, and design, (and their re-sale value is tops!).

As to model???- Depends on where you plan to fish 90% of the time, what type of trailering vehicle you have, how "fast" you want to go and how many "bells & whistles" you desire.
To be honest, you can get a MUCH cheaper boat, (than $13,000-$16,000) if you mostly plan on Cat-fishing. If your Cat-fishing in a river 90% of the time, I'd suggest getting a 16-18FT Semi-V with a 25-30HP tiller motor. Something like this- http://www.alumacraft.com/2011-models/fisherman/160/
If your river has a ton of obstructions, instead of a typical propped motor think about getting a Jet
Drive outboard. Jet Drives can run in a FT of water, (or less at times), and eliminate some of the apprehension about running over underwater structure. However, they are typically more expensive AND cost more to fix.
I would also suggest you NOT purchase a new boat. With the economy taking a nose-dive, there are TONS of deals on used boats. Check Craigslist and see for yourself.
Understand, a "new" boat depreciates 30% the MOMENT you take it off the lot. In 1 year, a new boat (that has barely any use) will be worth about half what you paid for it. Whatever model boat you decide to purchase, investigate a used one, (of the same model) and see the difference in price.
Also, before making your decision make sure your truck or vehicle can trailer it. Don't buy a monstrously heavy boat that costs you $30 to pull it 15 miles! You will regret it!
