jon boat
1986 jon boat engine, you think it still runs good?
I just bought a jon boat for 800, couple engines included along with a elect rick and it has a 1986 engine on it and I'd figured anything that old be past its time but the owner said it ran good when he had it and I don't know much about boats so what do you think?
Maybe it would have been better to have asked this question before you bought it?

I want to put a trolling motor, fish finder, and lights on my jon boat, how?
I know i need a jon boat, how do i use it to power those 3 items, and also, how do i charge it? any and all info is appreciated
Put the trolling motor up front, or on the back (the back is the easyest) A decent trolling motor for a John boat will run you about 100 bucks at academy or walmart. You will need atleast a 34 pound trust motor. On the depthfinder, make sure you follow the intructions step by step especaily if you have never put one on before. If you get the transducer in the wrong place you will not get an accurate reading. You can also get a depthfinderat academy for under 100 bucks. There is one called an Eagle Cuda and I believe they run around 60 dollars, but remember you get what you pay for. The Cuda is a bottom of the line unit, I have an Eagle Fishmark 320 And I have ben very pleased with it. It cost around 130 bucks. And on the light If you need running lights you will need a white allaround light on a pole in the back and a red and green light on the bow, these lights are required to run at night here in TX but laws may very from state to state. I also just put some flood light on my boat for night fishing, I paid 25 for them at academy. MAKE SURE to put a fuse in the wiring for your fishfinder. And lastly you will need 2 batteries on for your trolling motor and one for your lights and fish finder. Make sure that you dont skimp on price for the trolling batterie. I suggest either a Stoaway deepcycle trollling batterie from accademy for around 80 bucks. and for your lights and fish finder all roul realy need is a cheaper car batterie because they dont use very much juce. What ever your do DO NOT buy a Ever Start batterie from wallmart they are PURE JUNK!!! they have left me stranded several times. and finnaly on the charging buy a onboard batterie charger from academy. you will need a 2 bank charger for 2 batteries. You can charge them with just a regualar batterie charger but the onboard charger brings them up to up to full power and keeps them there without over charging and ruining them.

you can get plans on the net for free just search u can find..but you can buy a small boat cheaper than you can build one
