In which city of Canada would you view the Reversing Falls?

Saint John, New Brunswick. The effect is caused by the tides of the Bay of Fundy, which are the highest in the world.

At high tide the water from the Bay pushes the water from the Saint John River back upstream through a very narrow rocky gorge. The river rises in Maine and runs through that state and along the length of NB, so you can appreciate the power behind it, and the force exerted by the waters of the Bay to be able to push it backward. At the gorge, there is a 14 foot drop of water.

At low tide, the river water rushes out into the harbour and to the Bay. The only time the river is navigable is at "slack tide". a 30 minute interval twice a day when the water from the bay and the river balance, allowing ships through the gorge.

In recent years you have been able to take a ride through the gorge in a jetboat, the only thing powerful enough to survive the trip when the tide has turned. And I know, I've been through in a dory, as a child!

Absolutely agree with Ling – truck crossing every time. It's never slower, usually faster and the border guards are more pleasant. Or at least less pissed off. And who can blame them – have you seen the inside of the building at the truck crossing vs the inside of the building at the I-5 crossing?

An hour line-up on a long weekend morning is pretty good going. We've spent 3 hours there on more than one occasion.

Glad you took some of the coast road – it's really beautiful. If you're not coming back along the coast then Portland & Eugene have good beer. Actually, pretty much everywhere in the US has better beer than here. Oh, and the jet boat trips out of Grants Pass are fun.
