jet boats for sale
how often should i run my boat motor?
i know that carburetors clog up if i dont use it often enough. How long do i have between uses. i have a 2 stroke motor so i would have to take out the carb to clean it. im not very good at taking apart motors. I was also told that there is no carb cleaner for 2 strokes that you can put in the fuel. I just want my motor to not get clogged up.
Kevin, you sound like a new boat owner. But that's a good thing... and caring about your boat and engine maintenance is another good thing. But, you really don't have to worry about "that much". Those engines are built to take a fair amount of both abuse and neglect.
You don't mention where you are... so, I am going to assume you are far enough north, you live in one of those unfortunate areas that have a "boating season" vs all of us down south can be found on our boats the day after Christmas while the wife is out shopping for all those "sales".
I personally would never (and have never) put anything in my carburetors other then fuel. (I learned this from my Uncle who years worked on A.J. Foyt's cars here in Houston.) and I have never had a single problem. It is "oil" in fact that creates and collects all that nasty black carbon dust that causes your carburetor to get sticky flappers and clogged fuel jets and injectors...
The best is simply to leave your carburetor alone and instead, concentrate on a proper fuel mixture, maintain a good clean fuel filter, cover your engine when not in use for awhile, and have it serviced at the beginning and ending of every boat season.
Believe me... it is (as my Uncle always said) much like your penis... the more you think about it and mess with it, the more trouble it will get you in. lol

The jet boats in NZ would go a heck of a lot faster,…. BUT,… They're built a bloody sight better built and therefore much safer.
PLUS, you had life jackets and we had blokes with bugger-all value on their (and our) lives!
Ask me if I'd do it again? The answer's YES, but next time I'd ask them not to hold back on the throttle and maybe,… just maybe, let me have a drive.
If you could run 'em in Aussie, I'd love to have one.
