How do I winterize a boat?
I just bought a used ski boat this weekend. I've only owned outboards which never needed winterizing, so now I'm trying to figure out what to do so I can store this boat for the winter. I google for instructions and every list is different, and some contradict themselves. Some say drain the tank, some say fill the tank. And the one that matters most, the one to keep from cracking your block, also is inconsistent. Some say attach some muffs and run pink non-toxic antifreeze through it for a minute or two and you're done. Others say to pull off every hose and manually empty them all. Seeing as how I have zero familiarity with this engine at the moment, I know which one sounds easier this year, but is it TOTALLY EFFECTIVE?
I'm completely unfamiliar with this inboard/outboard engine thing, so any advice is appreciated.
Each model of engine has slightly different methods of storage/winterization. The best way for your particular engine is the way the manufacturer suggests. Spend the $65 on a service manual for your model, and follow the winterization procedure listed. After all, The price of a manual is cheap compared to replacing an engine or drive.

jtexas is SOOOOOO correct, rudders work best in in clean water, that is with out air in it.and less turbulance.
If the Stern were to rise and the prop was to cavitate, and push nothing but bubbles at the rudder. You would have no rudder control at all.
Sounds like builder knew this and moved them as far apart as possible.
As well putting prop deeper in the hull, and thus deeper in the water.
